In 2001, SBEM adopted the Canadian Code for Volunteer Involvement. This code describes standards of practice for effective volunteer involvement within organizations. Amongst others such standards, the Code strongly recommends that organizations screen potential volunteers in order to assure safety and security for everyone. The code also encourages organizations to recognize the value of volunteer work and makes sure that all volunteers are welcomed and treated with respect and dignity. SBEM expect that member organizations comply with the Code.
