How to Get Started

• Contact us at 514 523.6599 or at benevole@sbem.org. An orientation meeting will follow. This meeting is meant to guide you toward a volunteer activity which clearly reflects your interests, aptitudes and availability. You will also learn about volunteer action and our member organizations.
• Visit our office where you will find resources such as a documentation centre and a computer with Internet access.
• As soon as you have found a suitable volunteer activity, you register at SBEM. Your confidential file contains contact information and your volunteer preferences.
• Then, you receive information about the organization where you will be volunteering. You are now ready to contact this organization, specifically the person in charge of volunteers.
• This person will arrange to meet with you and the selection process will begin. You will visit the agency; get information on the activity for which your help is required, on the responsibilities and procedures to follow. If you both reach a mutually satisfying agreement, welcome aboard the organization!
• A few weeks later, Service bénévole de l’Est de Montréal will contact you to ask if you enjoying your volunteer experience. We will enquire whether you wish to continue volunteering in that organization or want to consider an alternative.
